Affirmations for the Soul

It’s been one of those weeks or even months, where I’ve had a lot to deal with and it’s been somewhat challenging at times. I’ve been doing a lot of thinking (overthinking I should say) and then realised I’ve been quite hard on myself, my expectations of me, in regards to motherhood, personal development, relationships etc, were just not realistic. I was feeling like I could be doing better in areas all round.  I think to an extent having this sort of attitude where you self critique can be quite beneficial, as it helps you to do more and gives you that push when you’ve been slacking. But when I thought about it I hadn’t really been slacking, well not as much as I thought, I think I was just getting a bit fed up and maybe this was my way of dealing with it.  When I really sat down and thought about it. I was doing pretty good (well there’s always room for improvement) but felt I should have been giving myself a bit more credit than I was.

So for a while now I’d been meaning to start doing daily affirmations.  Affirmations are statements which are even written down or repeated frequently which helps to encourage a positive attitude. I  needed something to help boost me - give me that confidence and inner strength... considering my state of mind. This was the perfect time to start and I have to say it’s been great -  it’s really helped me to feel more positive and to give me that drive to continue to persevere with my goals and my dreams and just coping with life in general which at times can be pretty stressful.

So first I started to look for quotes and even powerful words -  some of my favourites:

'I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me'  - Phillipians 4:13

'All is well. Everything is working out for my greatest good'  - Louise Hay

And some of my own….

'I will only entertain positive thoughts today.'

'I am more than enough.'

The great thing about affirmations is that you can tailor them to your needs, if you’re going through a difficult time or emotions …. such as self doubt, which is biggie for me at times.  .

When you repeat them over a period of time you really feel it sink in. I've heard of some people saying them while looking the mirror but I haven't quite tried that method yet. They say that it takes 21 days for a new habit to sink in so that’s the minimum I will be doing my new affirmations for and hope that it’s sunk in by then, before I change them up. I also find that I can hear my affirmations all throughout the day, repeating in my head, so therefore know that it’s really powerful.

It only takes few minutes out of my day so if you are very busy such as myself this is something that can easily be done every day.

Reciting these each morning and night have given me a great deal of strength and I’d highly recommend this practice if you aren’t already doing it.
